Sheffield Visual Gage Comparator: Also known as a shadowgraph, this precision measurement instrument is well known for its rugged design.
Standard Amplifications - Visual Gage Comparators are currently available in three models of different amplifications. The amplification best suited to any specific application will depend upon the tolerance range of the work checked, balanced against the scale range.
For instance, the scale of the 1000 to 1 model is graduated in "tenths" (0.0001"). The actual length of each graduation is one-tenth of an inch, making it easy to interpolate the reading to a fraction of a "tenth". On the 2000 to 1 model, one-tenth of an inch on the scale represents only "half a tenth" (0.00005").
